Talk:Kodesh Hakodashim

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page is misnamed, with vowels mixed up. - proper transliteration of the Hebrew phrase is "kodesh hakodhashim." It is properly transliterated phonetically in the pronunciation guide next to the Hebrew script, but the page name should be changed to reflect this.

This anon is correct. Also, the page should be merged to Holy of Holies - it's only ok to use a foreign name when an English name is not available. YechielMan 22:45, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The English name is currently being used as a generic term for a sacred building in a religion, and so long as it is used for this purpose it is not available for an article on the particular location on the Temple Mount, which is merely a kind or example of a Holy of Holies. It would be like having to merge ones article on Julius Caesar into the general article Human being. Best, --Shirahadasha 02:23, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

High Priest's face upon exit from the Holy of Holies was radiant

[edit]

I would like to know where this is at in the talmud, I am not saying it is not in there, I would just like to know where it is at. --Teacherbrock (talk) 23:01, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sanctum sanctorum

[edit]

.. Is linked in the "see also" section. I would suggest adding this to the 1st paragraph of the article. I searched for "Latin" in the article and found nothing, but expected to find "Sanctum sanctorum". Agreed? Thanks Kvsh5 (talk) 19:07, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

On the above article Sanctum sanctorum I added this:

The title of an article should generally use the version of the name of the subject which is most common in the English language, as you would find it in reliable sources

Probably requires a merge to the main Holy of Holies article, which appears overpopulated with dubiously sourced Christian material - in any case which is derivative from Ancient Israel usage of the term and may not even use the "Holy of Holies" term. Following support on the target Talk page, merged. The Greek Orthodox material on the target page was not the same term, so moved to iconostasis.
